Godaddy Sale

For about a week now GoDaddy.com has had a sale, selling domains for $6.95 for 1 year. I believe that is the cheapest you can get them on the web. Although most people buy for one year, please remember that registering for longer does not only give you more discount but also improves your SERP ranking.

Registering a domain should always be done through a ICANN acredited registrar and I think GoDaddy offers great service for low costs. The weird thing is that they seem to charge $1 dollar extra for service costs, i still believe it's a good deal.

This is offcourse good for buying a starter (say, for a SEO World Championship) domain, but keep in mind that registering for longer will benifit your SERP ranking and give you more discount.

It is believed that search engines track how long a domain is registered for to see if a web-business is serious or not. This might be something to consider when buying a domain name.
