Yahoo! clearing up confusion

After several days of wandering what's up with the Overture Keyword Selector Tool, Yahoo! finally releases the truth. It will not pull the plug but the tool is just experiencing technical difficulties.

Yahoo! clearing up confusion

I also was confused by this roumor and believe I own everybody an appology for spreading the word. From their recent emails I concluded they were pulling the plug, but as I was able to query the tool occasionally and I started to believe otherwise.

Now the proof has come. This post states that Yahoo! is justed experiencing technical difficulties with their Keyword Tool, like has happened many times before.

Yahoo's response to the public regarding the Overture Keyword Selector Tool:

"I’d like to clarify that Yahoo! Search Marketing’s public keyword research tool (formerly known as the Overture’s Keyword Selector Tool- KST) continues to exist today and will continue to exist until we replace it with an improved product. Unfortunately, the responsiveness of this free tool is diminished due to the sheer volume of hits it receives each day, therefore browsers may time out and error pages may appear but it doesn’t mean that this tool has been removed."

Yahoo! does insist on using their new tool though Yahoo Search Marketing for the time being. They say it's improved, but all I see is bars and no quantative numbers. I know Overture skewed their results, but some numbers are better than no numbers as it helps me grasp the situation.

I hope they get this tool running again very soon with improvements like:

-Speed
-Actual non skewed values
-No keyword order changing
-No plural to singular conversion

I trust Yahoo! knows what we need and providing this for free will just help new advertertisers gain more confidence in their services.

Thank god!

That's some great news! This tool had some flaws (As you accuratly stated) but I was starting to miss it over the last couple of days.
I guess you only miss things after the've gone, because I too have been rather sceptical about their output and their frequent downtime.
Never liked it much but kept returning to re-check my wordtracker and keyword discovery results. I'm a cheap bastard and don't want to pay for these services so had to go the exta mile by checking all three sources.

Do you know when it will be running at normal slow speed again?

Overture not likely to be restored

It is not likely to be restored for external access, is what I have heard from Yahoo. Just via their ad management centre.

Cheers
David

Interesting

Interesting comment David.

What is there to restore? In my experience the tool is running as the original post states. Its just periodic and experiencing alot of downtime.
