Astroturfing

This is the process of deliberately placing fake ‘spontaneous’ posts or articles on messageboards or blogs to promote a website or service. The term comes from AstroTurf or fake grass or roots. This is basically what is accomplished with AstroTurfing as a fake reputation (hence ‘roots’) is used to promote a site.
